Banned Book Week Poster

Banned Book Week Poster, Design
Banned Book Week Poster
This piece was designed as a type-only poster advertising National Banned Books Week. Doing research about commonly banned books, I found that the same title has been the most banned book in the country for the last three years in a row because of its focus on a trans character. That made me really sad, so I wanted to bring that to light through this project. The bright use of colors mimics the bright color scheme typically found in elementary and middle-school fiction.

Artist Statement
Art's greatest power is its ability to establish a meaningful connection between those who create it and those who consume it. That connection has allowed cultures to flourish across continents and across millennia. As artists, I believe that our greatest power is in creating that connection.
Through art, we have the power to tell our stories. We have the power to add joy and beauty to the world, as well as document its pain. We have the power to challenge ideas and sway our audiences’ minds. We have the power to imagine a better world, as well as help create it.
My goal as an artist is to do all of those things.
