For this project, we were to recreate a person through values. We used a variety of soft graphite pencils. To complete this challenge we needed to replicate the initial image but stretch and visually distort the image three times. To start we referenced a photograph of our choosing as a reference. After the first image, we were only allowed to use our own [distorted] illustrations as references.
I chose this image because I liked the subtlety of his expression and the position of his hand. What drew me, even more, was that his hand was holding a cigarette. I focused a lot of the attention on the hand, temple, and creases on the forehead to exaggerate the emotion of stress and contemplation.
